Ever been arrested? Remember the feeling of seeing police lights and getting pulled over?

March 28, 2019

Have you ever been pulled over by the police? Remember the feeling of the lights in the rear view mirror? The first thing you did was look at your speed and….. dang… you knew you were busted. What goes through your mind? First, what can I say to get out of it? Over and over you are praying for grace. The problem is, you know you violated the speed. You know you deserve that ticket. You also know it’s going to impact your insurance rates. On top of that, you know your insurance rates will stay up for a while. You’re literally sick. That’s only happened to me about 20 times. Either way, it’s one of the worst feelings. You knew better, but you still violated the law. Now, magnify that by about a million. What do I mean by that? Imagine standing before Jesus for the first time? That moment when your life slips away and you are faced with an eternal reality. YOUR SIN…. OH NO! The Bible says, “No one is righteous, not even one, All have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory” What does that mean? It means you don’t make the grade. You're guilty. You violated the law. Your good works weren’t enough. You’ve fallen short. The punishment is way more than the speeding ticket. The fine last way longer than a high insurance rate. This is eternal. It’s serious business. …. Imagine the thoughts that will go through your head. There is no turning back. There is no second chance. This is way beyond any blue, white and red lights in a rear view mirror. This is the real thing. Ever stood before a judge awaiting a jury....praying for grace? Knowing you violated the law. Imagine being a murderer… knowing you were going to get sent behind bars forever. The rest of your earthly existence behind some dark and dreary bars. Imagine the judge slapping down the gavel and saying, “YOU ARE GUILTY”. Ahh! You wish… You just wish you had some way to pay off the judge. You wish you had enough money or a great attorney or something to get you out of this horrible sentence. …. Wait… What if the judge slaps down the gavel, says your guilty, but the judge leaves his chair, takes off his robe, and says to you, “I’m paying your fine”. I’m going to jail for you. Your penalty is paid!... You are free! Imagine the feeling you’d have for that judge. At first, you hated him because he slapped down the gavel on you (even though it wasn’t his fault.) You knew you disobeyed the rules. You knew you were guilty. He just did His job. The law was in place and you violated it. … Most folks say, Well, I never killed anyone. I never cheated on my wife. Well, the Bible says if you hate someone, you have committed murder in your heart. If you looked at a man or woman lustfully, you’ve also committed adultery in your heart. So yes, we are all guilty. Again, no one is righteous, not even one. However, we have a God, (like this judge above) that offered you grace (unmerited favor). The bible says, "God Love the world so much that he sent his one and only son, that whoever believes in Him, will not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. Folks, “God did not send his son into the world to condemn it, but to save it.”. He paid the penalty for your crime on the cross. The blood that was shed for you was supposed to be your blood. The pain he endured was supposed to be your pain. The tears he shed first were supposed to be your tears. However, He shed those tears for you. He was thinking about you when he gave his life. He’s thinking about you now. He knows you will stand before Him on judgment day. He’s provided a way out. He’s asking for you to surrender your heart. The guy on the cross next to Jesus had nothing left to give. His works were tied to a cross. However, he surrendered his heart to Jesus. He simply said, “Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom,” Jesus said, “today, you will be with me in paradise”. Guys, Jesus isn’t chasing you down with a pitchfork condemning you. He died on the cross to save you. Why would you reject it? Folks, you will stand on judgment day facing Jesus. It’s going to be way more intimidating than red, white and blue lights in the rearview mirror. It’s going to be real. It’s going to be powerful. It's going to be ETERNAL …. Folks, I know when I stand on judgment day, I’m going to see my sin. All my sins will be exposed. However, I also know they will be wiped out. My first response won’t be "OH NO, I messed up. I should have believed." My first response will probably be me falling on my knees thanking Him for giving my life. It will be a moment when fear and joy merge. Where death and life come together for one last time. When joy and sorrow separate and joy becomes eternal and sorrow dies. Where pain is not even a memory. …. I love the song… I can only imagine. Honestly, I don’t think any of us will be able to imagine what it will be like. You’ll either be surrounded by His glory or cast away from his presence. It’s your choice. People always say, “how can God be so harsh”. On the contrary, how can God be so loving by dying for us, when he could have left us as our sins deserved. What a God! … My challenge for you is to realize that day will come. That day when the eternal lights will be flashing. You remember how you pray for Grace when the police officer pulls you over. Well, the grace has already been extended. He already offered you that grace. By the time the enteral lights are flashing it will be too late to get that grace. Accept it now. …… You know what I love about Grace. Let me explain it this way. I used to be afraid of the law. I was always afraid of getting in trouble. I feared the police. Well, scripture says, “The law gets written on our hearts.” I no longer fear God because of the law, I love God because he paid for me to avoid the law. I moved from fear to joy knowing God has forgiven me. I try not to sin not because I fear judgment, but because I love grace. … Folks, “GOD (truly) LOVES THE WORLD SO MUCH THAT HE GAVE HIS ONE AND ONLY SON, THAT WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE”. The gift is free, it’s your choice to accept it.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snLm_w-JAM8&t=3s
